Erik Desmyter: Ocean Sunset XII - woodcut print from two separate oak blocks for ocean and sunset. The sunset block was made from endgrain oak wood using the natural grain of the irregular annual growth rings. The ocean block was cut using the grain lines along the length of an oak wood plank. Both blocks were inked separately by hand, each in a two color ink gradient, before combining both blocks on the bed of the press.
Printed traditionally by hand with oil-based ink at Atelier Desmyter on a counterweight Albion press from the 1840s. Limited edition of 50 prints, signed and numbered in pencil, on cream colored Simili Japon paper with 2 deckled edges. Paper size 64 cm x 48 cm (25 1/4 inch x 19 inch), image size 53 cm x 38 cm (21 inch x 14 3/4 inch).
